Mexico closes US border until September 21

Due to the increasing number of new types of coronavirus (Covid-19) in Mexico and the USA, the USA decided to close the border to “non-mandatory” crossings until September 21.

Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard announced that the decision to close the border with the USA until 21 August, which was previously taken due to the Covid-19 outbreak, was extended to September 21.

Ebrard said that they have declared their plans to the USA regarding the issue and that the opening of the borders on August 21 is meaningless.

In the statement made by the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs last month, it was shared that the decision to close the US-Mexico border until July 21, which was previously taken due to the Covid-19 outbreak, was extended until August 21, when the cases increased again in the USA.

The Mexican and US border was first closed on March 18 due to Covid-19, and this restriction was extended every month.

According to the “Worldometer” website, where up-to-date data on new cases in countries and regions with Covid-19 were compiled, while 505 thousand 751 people had Covid-19 in Mexico so far, 55 thousand 293 people died due to the virus.
