WHO: Remdesivir has no effect against coronavirus

A new type of coronavirus that affects the whole world and causes more than a million deaths. Since an effective vaccine has not yet been developed against the (Covid-19) pandemic, effective drugs that can benefit patients are of great importance.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has published a report claiming that remdevisir, which is the leading drug of these drugs, has limited or no effect on clinical patients.

Then, the manufacturer of the drug, US pharmaceutical company Gilead, stated that the data in the WHO study inconsistent.

Gilead explained that the effects of remdevisir have proven by clinical trials conducted by independent researchers around the world.

US pharmaceutical company Gilead questioned the findings of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) report concluding that the Covid-19 drug remdesivirine does not help hospitalized patients.

Remdevisir, also used in the treatment of US President Donald Trump’s corona virus. Together with the steroid drug dexamethasone, it leads the drugs with proven effects against the pandemic, for which there is no vaccine yet.

In clinical studies conducted in the USA and the United Kingdom regarding the drug produced against ebola. Severe Covid-19 patients have been shown to reduce the need for oxygen support and help shorten the hospital stay up to 5 days.

The drug in question received emergency use approval by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in May.
