After months of trouble with jump lists in the Start menu, Microsoft has acknowledged that it has fixed the issue Windows 10 users are experiencing.
Microsoft has finally responded to reports from Windows 10 users that they are unable to open the jump lists for apps pinned to the Start menu and taskbar after installing KB5052077 or later. Microsoft has shared the cause of the problem, stating that the issue has been fixed with the automatically installed update.
Why is the jumplists not opening issue happening?
Microsoft said that the issue occurs in applications that have recent files in their jumplists, such as Excel or Word. In addition, the introduction of a redesigned Account Control experience in Windows 10’s Start menu caused the problem.
Resolved with a background patch
Microsoft stopped the distribution of the update that caused this issue on April 25, 2025, to prevent the bug from spreading further and to apply a fix to the affected systems. All Windows 10 PCs with an active internet connection automatically received the necessary patches in the background.
The issue with jumplists started with the KB5052077 update released on February 25, 2025. It should be noted that the issue affects Windows 10 version 22H2 (Home and Pro).
For those who don’t know, Jumplists are lists of quick actions and recent files that you can open by right-clicking an app on the taskbar or Start menu.
