Guterres emphasized that anti-racist protests in the U.S., which started with the death of black American George Floyd as a result of police violence, spread all over the world.
Pointing out that the colonialism imposed by the European continent and the north towards the southern countries underlie all these inequalities, Guterres underlined that colonialism creates great inequality within and between countries.
Guterres said that the legacy of colonialism is still echoing, manifesting itself in economic and social injustice, hate crimes and xenophobia.
Pointing out that colonialism is also continuing in international organizations such as the UN Security Council, Guterres noted that the problems can be resolved with the start of reforms in these global organizations.
