Two antibodies from llamas inactivated Covid-19 in the lab

Two types of antibodies from South American mammals llamas, reported to be able to neutralize the new type of corona virus (Covid-19) in cells cultured in the laboratory.

Study conducted under the leadership of James Naismith and Raymond Owens of the Rosalind Franklin Institute, Published in “Nature Structural & Molecular Biology” magazine.

Camels like llamas, scientists who emphasize that it has a single domain antibody type known as “nanobody” as well as two heavy and light antibody chains as in humans, He discovered two closely related “nanobody” that prevent Covid-19’s spikes from binding to the ACE2 protein in cell culture.

These single-domain antibodies, called H11-H4 and H11-D4 and taken from llamas, H11-H4 was found to have higher potential, while it was found to neutralize Covid-19 in cells cultured in the laboratory.

Scientists noted that “nanobody” s can be used alone or combined with other antibodies for passive immunization in severe Covid-19 cases.

It was emphasized that these single domain antibodies can be made available to humans by known methods.

Covid-19 uses the ACE2 protein as a gate to enter and infect cells.
