Serbian Orthodox Church Patriarch Irinej died due to coronavirus. Hundreds of people kissed the patriarch at his funeral. In a written statement from the Serbian Orthodox Church, it reported that Irinej, who had on coronavirus treatment for a while, died at the Karaburma Military Hospital in Belgrade, Serbia. Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic also shared the photo of Irinej on his social media account, “It was an honor to know you. People like you will never come.”

Irinej conducted the funeral of the Montenegrin Serbian Orthodox Church Archbishop Amfilohije Radovic, who died 14 days ago from the coronavirus. At the funeral attended by thousands of people, dozens of people kissed Radovic’s body in the open coffin.

Irinej, whose real name is Miroslav Gavrilovic, was born in Cacak, Serbia in 1930. Graduated from the Kosovar city of Prizren and Orthodox schools in Belgrade, Gavrilovic became the church “Irinej” in 1959.
