The streets of Belarus are confused again

Belarusian streets mixed again with the expiration of Lukashenko. For Belarus opposition leader Svetlana Tikhanovskaya to resign to Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko. With the expiry of the given deadline, thousands of people took to the streets again. Police have detained 128 demonstrators so far.

The anti-government protests that erupted after the Presidential elections in Belarus on August 9 continue in their 11th week.

By posting a message from Lithuania, where opposition leader Svetlana Tikhanovskaya took refuge in Belarus in early October. She had given President Alexander Lukashenko time to resign until 25 October. Tikhanovskaya had threatened Lukashenko that if he did not leave office, there would be a general strike and the protests would increase in the country. With Tikhanovskaya’s deadline for Lukashenko to resign, thousands of people took to the streets again. The demonstrators called for Lukakeshnko to resign.

The protesters gathered on Orlovskaya Street and started marching towards the Presidential Palace at 14:00 local time.

While the police did not intervene in the march in the first place, the Presidential Residence was protected by 10 heavily armored vehicles and a large number of soldiers and police officers. Many streets and 12 subway stations leading to the residence were also closed.

According to the statement made by the Belarus Viasna Human Rights Center, the number of custody has reached 128 so far. It was stated that those who resisted the police in the streets continued to be detained. While the center reported that some people were slightly injured while the police used tear gas and stun grenades. Explained that the police intervened harshly and that studies are continuing to determine the number of wounded in hospitals.

Opposition leader Tikhanovskaya said in a statement towards the evening. By supporting the European Union’s (EU) efforts to take sanctions decision against Belarus.
