Stores are closing in Belgium

New measures added to the previous measures to reduce the rapidly increasing new types of Coronavirus (Covid-19) cases in Belgium. It decided to close the stores except markets and pharmacies.

The Advisory Committee chaired by Prime Minister Alexander de Croo. It discussed the measures to implemented to reduce the number of new cases exceeding 15 thousand daily. De Croo said in a statement after the meeting that Belgium is in a state of emergency in terms of health. “Our only option right now is to support the health sector and avoid physical contact as much as possible. We are going back to strict measures. This has only one purpose. That is to prevent the collapse of our health system.”

It has been decided to close all stores in the country, except for places that are frequently needed by the public, such as supermarkets, grocery stores and pharmacies, until at least December 1.

Online or telephone sales will continue. Customers will have the opportunity to go to the store and take their orders without going inside.

Restaurants that were previously closed together with cafes and bars will be able to continue their takeaway. Hotels may also be open, but the restaurants inside will be kept closed.

The curfew, which previously announced in many regions of the country, not extended between 22.00 and 06.00. The prohibited time period in the Flemish region is between midnight and 05:00.

The Belgian government did not restrict travel, either. It reported that the borders will kept open and travel will not be blocked. The necessity of a mask will also continue in all open and closed areas.
