Protest note given to the US for Russia’s posts supporting Navalny demonstrations

In Russia, an unauthorized protest, attended by tens of thousands of people, was organized on January 23 for the release of the imprisoned Russian dissident Alexei Navalny. It was stated that more than 3 thousand people were detained in demonstrations across the country.

Moscow
Russia gave a protest note to the USA because of the posts of the US Embassy in Moscow supporting the demonstrations held at the weekend for the release of the imprisoned Russian opposition Alexei Navalny.

Spokesperson of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mariya Zaharova, reminded the state channel Perviy that the US Embassy in Moscow posted on social media that support the protests of the Russian opposition Alexei Navalny.

Pointing out that they regard the said posts as “direct intervention in Russia’s internal affairs”, Zaharova said that the US Ambassador to Moscow, John Sullivan, was called to the ministry.

Stating that they have invited the US to comply with Russian laws, Zaharova said, “The US side was given a protest note.” she said.

Emphasizing that some US internet companies shared “false” information about the demonstrations, Zaharova said that these allegations will also be examined.

The US Embassy in Moscow shared the hours and places of the protests to be held in the country on social media last week.
