NASA astronauts returned to Earth with SpaceX capsule

The space capsule, carrying astronauts Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken, who served at the US Aerospace Agency’s (NASA) International Space Station (ISS), returned to Earth.

According to NASA’s statement, the capsule, part of the “Crew Dragon” shuttle produced by SpaceX, has been dropped into the water off the city of Pensecola, on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, Florida state, by parachute.

In addition to being the first US landing from space to sea after 45 years, this was completed with the return voyage of the first manned space travel with a rocket and shuttle developed by a private company.

The Crew Dragon shuttle, carrying astronauts Hurley and Behnken, was launched into space on May 30 and reached ISS on May 31. This has been the first manned space expedition from the USA since NASA ended the Space Shuttle program in 2011.

Astronauts and cosmonauts at ISS were transported with Russian-made “Soyuz” shuttles, because NASA stopped producing staff shuttles.

6 members of crew from different countries work alternately at ISS, the joint project of NASA, Russian Federal Space Agency, Japan Space Research Agency, European Space Agency and Canada Space Agency.

As part of NASA’s “Commercial Supply Services” program, American companies Northrop Grumman are carrying supply materials to ISS with cargo shuttles called “Cygnus” and SpaceX with “Dragon”.

On the other hand, in addition to SpaceX, Boeing is making test flights with “CST-100 Starliner” space shuttles to carry personnel to ISS under the “Commercial Crew Development Program”.
