Fukushima statement from Japan

Kajiyama Hiroshi, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan. Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, which damaged in the earthquake and tsunami in 2011. He said that the decision must be made at the earliest opportunity to destroy a large amount of water.

Minister Kajiyama stated that the issue of eliminating radioactive water should not be left unsolved.

Noting that different options are on the agenda, Kajiyama stated that the decision regarding the disposal of water is the responsibility of the government and that a decision should be made at the earliest opportunity.

“We must make a quick decision to avoid delays in the decommissioning process.” Using the statement, Kajiyama did not give details regarding the time frame and options.

The 9-magnitude earthquake that took place in Japan on 11 March 2011 and the tsunami that followed caused a radioactive leak in the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant.

In the incident, 3 of the 4 nuclear reactors in the plant were damaged and tens of thousands of people living in the area had to leave their homes after the leak. It is estimated that it will take decades to fully contain the leak and liquidate the plant.
