French President Macron: Lukashenko must go

French President Emmanuel Macron, held in Belarus on August 9. He argued that President Alexander Lukashenko, who won the presidential elections, should leave office.

Macron argues that authoritarian forces cannot accept the logic of democracy and try to stay in power by force. “Obviously, Lukashenko must go.” used the expression.

The President of France, saying that he impressed by the bravery of the demonstrators in Belarus. “They know the risks of going on the road every weekend, yet they continue the movement to bring democracy to the country.”

Stating that he is calling for a peaceful transition in Belarus, Macron. It is necessary to initiate a dialogue, taking into account the will of the people.

After the current President Alexander Lukashenko won the presidential elections in Belarus on 9 August. The protests started with the allegation that “the elections were manipulated”.

The protesters are demanding a new election as well as constitutional amendment in the country.

French Presidency during a 3-day visit by Macron to Lithuania and Latvia on 28-30 September. They says there is a possibility of meeting with Belarusian opposition leader Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, who is in Lithuania.
