Floods and landslides affected 3.6 million people in East Africa

In East Africa, floods and landslides caused by heavy rains have negatively affected the lives of 3.6 million people since June.

In a written statement from the United Nations (UN) Humanitarian Aid Coordination Office, it stated that especially South Sudan, Kenya and Uganda affected by floods.

The statement, “The increase in the water level in the lakes and floods affect thousands of people. In South Sudan alone, 850 thousand people affected by floods and 400 thousand people had to migrate.”

The new type of coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic in the region, adversely affected by the economic crisis and conflict. Millions of people are now battling floods, with the highest rate of rainfall in recent years.

According to the UN, 1.1 million people in Ethiopia adversely affected by floods, while 313 thousand people migrated. Many schools and hospitals became unusable due to the floods.
