Flooding again in Venice: billion dollar project did not work

Due to heavy rain and heavy winds, the Italian city of Venice was again flooded. The barrier system, which was designed to protect the city from floods, could not be activated on time due to account error.

The water level rose once again. San Marco square was filled with water again.

The Italian city of Venice is again struggling with flooding.

Heavy rain was stronger than predicted, and when combined with the wind, this scene emerged.

Streets and shops were flooded.

Moreover, the barrier system built to protect the city from floods was not operated due to calculation error and meteorological estimates.

This system was designed to be activated when the water level exceeds 1.38 meters.

It was predicted that the water level would rise to a maximum of 1.25 meters in the last flood, but this prediction turned out to be incorrect.

With the effect of strong winds, the water level exceeded 1.38 meters. It was late in the commissioning of the system.

The billion-dollar project designed to protect the city from floods was successfully tested in July.

Venice had to deal with the biggest flood of the last 50 years in November 2019. The water level had risen to 187 centimeters.
