After the transition period completed, the UK left the European Union fully.

Britain, which officially left the EU on January 31, 2020, was holding extensive negotiations with the union on bilateral relations, especially trade.

In the negotiations that ended Wednesday, the EU and Britain had reached a compromise on a trade agreement. The agreement has come into effect as of today.

The agreement, which will be valid until the end of February, will become permanent after being voted by the European Parliament.

Scottish Prime Minister Nicola Sturgeon said Scotland will return to the EU soon.
