In a statement made by the Volcanology and Geological Disaster Reduction Center (PVMBG), it was stated that the ash and smoke erupted in the explosion at Merapi Volcano on Java Island, Indonesia reached a height of 400 meters.

In the statement, it was shared that the erupting lava mass descended 1000 meters from the southwestern slope of the volcano.

Authorities reiterate the warning that “there is no activity up to 5 kilometers around the volcano”, which is at the “orange” alert level and has recently increased volcanic activity.

In 2010, 347 people died as a result of the lava eruption of the 2 thousand 968 meters high Merapi Volcano on Cava Island.

The volcano alarm system in Indonesia consists of 4 stages: “green”, “yellow”, “orange” and “red” at the top level.
