China against US TikTok and WeChat sanctions ‘unreliable companies and contacts’ list step

China against US TikTok and WeChat sanctions ‘unreliable companies and contacts’ list step.

China announces new sanctions against US social media apps TikTok and WeChat owned by Chinese companies. It issued regulations regarding the list of “unreliable companies and individuals”.

In the written statement made by the Ministry of Trade, details regarding the “unreliable companies and persons” list shared.

People and organizations that endanger China’s national sovereignty, security or development interests will be blacklisted and sanctions will be imposed.

Persons and companies included in the list will be prohibited from importing from or exporting to this country. They can also be prevented from investing in the country.

Preventive measures against those who are included in the list of “unreliable companies and persons” include fines, restrictions on entry to China, and revocation of work or residence permits.

In the statement that the US is called to end its practices described as “bullying and misconduct”, it was emphasized that necessary measures will be taken to protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies in a determined manner.

No information was given about which companies and individuals will be included in the list. The announcement of the new regulations was made after the announcement that social media applications TikTok and WeChat belonging to Chinese companies will be banned from downloading in the country as of September 20, on the grounds of “protecting national security”.

In June 2019, China shared the information that after the US sanctioned and blacklisted Chinese telecommunications equipment supplier Huawei, a list of individuals and companies that harmed their interests would be created and sanctions would be imposed.

US President Donald Trump announced on August 3 that he would ban the Chinese-based social media platform TikTok if his US arm is not sold to any American company.

On August 6, Trump signed 2 decrees to prohibit US individuals or organizations from doing any business with Chinese companies’ social media applications TikTok and WeChat.
