A step from the EU to make domestic and foreign travel difficult

The European Union has recommended that non-mandatory domestic and international travel be made difficult in member countries due to the increase in the number of new types of coronavirus cases and the emergence of faster-spreading species.

The European Union (EU) Commission announced that it has proposed various changes in the criteria for the coordination of internal and external travel to member countries.

Accordingly, all non-essential travel will be strongly discouraged due to the spread of the new type of coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak and its more infectious types.

The map showing the risk zones within the EU will be updated. Green, orange, red and gray colors will be added to the risk map, which is prepared with the data collected weekly by the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), to indicate the regions where the virus spreads very quickly.

Dark red will be applied to places where new cases are over 500 per 100,000 in the last 14 days. From the regions determined in dark red, tests will be made before travel and quarantine will be applied after arrival.

No restrictions will be imposed on those living in border areas, who frequently travel across borders for family or business reasons.

The transportation will continue uninterruptedly in order to avoid interruptions in the supply chain and product shipment.

Member states will implement additional measures on passengers from outside the EU.

Those traveling for compulsory reasons or from countries with no restrictions will be required to submit a negative Covid-19 test performed 72 hours before their entry into the EU at the earliest. EU citizens and family members will be allowed to have these tests after entry.

Despite the negative test result, 14 days of quarantine will be applied to those coming from countries where the more easily transmitted type of the virus is determined. Additional Covid-19 tests will also be done to these people.

Those entering the EU from 3rd countries will be required to fill out a passenger information form. For this purpose, EU countries will develop a common form.

The EU Commission proposals in question are advisory to member states.
