A green-haired dog was born in Italy

An extremely unique event occurred on a farm on the Italian island of Sardinia. One of the puppies of a dog that gave birth to 8 puppies was born green due to a rare pigment event that occurs in the mother’s womb.

A pregnant dog brought 8 healthy puppies to the world at the farm of farmer Cristian Mallocci, who lives in Sardinia, Italy.

One of the pups was born green due to a rare pigment event that occurs in the mother’s womb.

The health of the dog named ‘Pistachio’ is very good with its 7 siblings with white fur.

The owner of the dogs, Cristian Mallocci, announced that they will adopt the other 7 puppies, but that they own the puppy they named Pistachio.

Green fluffy puppies are an incredibly rare occurrence. The coloring comes from a bile pigment called Biliverdin found in dogs’ placenta. As the baby is born, Biliverdin is dislodged and mixed with the amniotic fluid surrounding the offspring in the mother’s womb. If the levels of biliverdin are unusually high because it mixes with the liquid, it can stain the puppy’s fur.

The color usually resolves on its own within weeks after birth. There are no known health risks with this condition.
