80 armed gang members killed in July in Nigeria

80 members of the armed gang were killed in operations last month in areas where there were clashes between shepherds and farmers in northwestern Nigeria.

Bernard Onyeuko, Deputy Spokesperson of the Ministry of Defense of Nigeria, said in a statement to the press members that operations were organized for armed gang members in the provinces of Zamfara, Katsina and Sokoto last month.

Onyeuko noted that 80 gang members were neutralized in operations, and many gang members were wounded.

Stating that 47 gang members were caught in operations, Onyeuko said that close to a thousand cattle stolen by gangs, as well as 23 weapons and important ammunition were seized.

Onyeuko also shared information that 14 people who were taken hostage by armed gangs were rescued.

There are occasional violent clashes between the Fulani who are busy with animal husbandry and some tribes living with farming.

The Fulani, who migrated to the south of the country to graze their animals, claim that the farmers attacked them. The Fulani suggest that farmers are trying to steal their livestock.
