‘Work from the Caribbean, not from home’: Barbados grants one-year visa

Barbados, whose tourism has suffered a heavy blow due to the Coronavirus pandemic, issues a yearly visa for $ 2,000 to those who work from their homes with a program it has launched to revive the country’s economy.

While the first economic indicators regarding the periods in which restrictive measures were implemented due to the Coronavirus pandemic revealed that the tourism sector was heavily hit, some countries resorted to alternative solutions to mobilize tourism.

Barbados, whose tourism has been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic, has decided to issue a one-year visa for $ 2,000 to those working from their homes, with a visa program launched to revive the country’s economy.

The country, which offers new conditions for a visa, will ask for 2 thousand dollars for a single visa and 3 thousand dollars for a family visa. In order to obtain a visa from the country, the condition of earning 50 thousand dollars a year is sought.

It has been stated that 3 thousand people have come to the country with the new visa program since the pandemic.

On the other hand, the Gillian-Jim Todd couple from Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, was among the 3,000 people who settled in the Caribbean during the pandemic with this visa.

Stating that he quit his job last January and came here for a year with his wife, a computer software developer, “It was very easy. We put our belongings in a warehouse and brought a few things with us. We stayed in quarantine for two weeks in a barracks. The next thing is nice. Jim said.” He works between 05: 00-13: 30. He enjoys the afternoons. I’m like on vacation too. I do yoga, get together with my friends, walk around. The beaches are something else; they are really beautiful.

Barbados Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley said, “Covid-19 has changed the working life globally. Many people work from home. We guarantee those who want to work here for 12 months. You will come to the world for a week, two weeks or a month. “Enjoy being somewhere else, the sun, the sand, the sea and a stable country.”
