400 thousand airline employees may be dismissed

Many airline companies around the world have laid off many employees. Many are making plans to reduce the number of employees.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, around 400,000 airline employees were either dismissed, released for free leave, or notified that they could be dismissed.

Aviation was more badly affected than most sectors, with the pandemic dealing a hard blow to ticket sales and consuming companies’ cash.

Airline companies around the world stopped their flights with the closing of the borders. Due to the fear of virus and quarantine times, travel appetite especially for international flights has decreased.

According to the calculations of Bloomberg News, British Airways, Deutsche Lufthansa AG, Emirates Airline and Qantas Airways Ltd. it is among the airlines that have announced thousands of layoffs and unpaid leave.

Many airline companies are expected to take similar steps in the USA after the ban on layoffs – the condition for a $ 50 billion rescue – was lifted in September.

Delta Air Lines Inc., United Airlines Holdings Inc. and American Airlines Group Inc. it has already warned that more than 35,000 employees may lose their jobs.

The total workforce loss of these three companies can reach 100 thousand by the end of the year.

Pilots and cabin crews also face wage cuts, despite protecting their jobs.
